Sociological and Political Constraints of Islamic Sharia Enforcement in South Sulawesi Indonesia

The objective of this study is to examine the challenges encountered by Islamic Sharia Enforcement Committee in South Sulawesi analyzing responses charismatic ulama. Qualitative methods, such as observation, interviews, and documentation, were employed conduct a descriptive critical analysis. result showed that primary obstacle wider acceptance idea lies sociological rejection Ulama opposed plan due their epistemological understanding strategic approach advocating it within Unitary State Republic Indonesia (NKRI). Politically, they gave substantive cultural notion instead formalistic structural discourse because there are no circumstances may force state grant special autonomy like Aceh. contemporary thinking ulama shaped education practical experience, enabling them consider contextual factors openly. views Indonesian on implementing influenced political failures, genuine religious beliefs, accommodations made address Muslim aspirations.
